거의 과대망상적인 인상을 주는 부다성. 그 언덕 위에서 본 작디작은 제비꽃 한 송이로 거의 잊을 뻔한 옛노래를 기억해 냈다. 그 노래를 부른 스페인의 가수 세실리아는 젊디젊은 꽃 같은 나이에 교통사고로 이 세상을 떠났다는 것도. Julio와 함께 부르는 그녀의 읊조리는 듯한 선율과 가사에 담긴 가슴 아픈 이야기, 그 잔잔한 표현방식은 들으면 들을수록 사람을 몰입하게 한다. 사진 폴더를 뒤져서 여태껏 찍은 보라색 꽃 사진들을 마구 찾아 비디오를 만들고 있자니, 마음 깊은 곳에서 아릿한 추억이 한없이 솟아오른다.
철모르는 애들은 이건 할아버지 할머니나 듣는 노래라고 할지 모른다. 천만의 말씀. 요즘 어떤 노래가 이토록 서정적으로 인간의 사랑을 멋들어지게 이야기 하나? 클래식이 아무거나 클래식이 아니다. 클래식은 인간을 인간답게 하는 보편적인 인간성을 절대절묘하게 표현했기에 인간 역사에 영원히 남는 최상급 작품들이다. 요즘 끝없이 쇠락해가는 인류 문명의 마지막 남은 보루다.
게다가 비디오 만들어서 Facebook, Youtube 등에 올리려면 저작권 보호 규정 때문에 신곡이나 유행곡은 올리는 게 기술적으로 가능하지도 않다. 저작권이 만료됐거나 좀 느슨해진 오래된 노래만 가능하다는 건 비디오 만들어 본 사람이면 다 안다. 얘들아, 뭘 좀 알고 나서 “좋아요”를 누르든 말든 하거라.
Buda Castle has an almost megalomaniacal impression. The tiny violets I saw on its hilltop made me recall an old song I had nearly forgotten. And that the Spanish singer, Cecilia, left this world in a tragic car accident at the age of 27, an age like a young flower. Her haunting melody, the heartbreaking story behind the lyrics, and the gentle way she sings it with Julio draw you in endlessly. I searched through my photo folder and found all the purple flower photos I had taken so far. As I made this video out of them listening to the song, memories welled up from deep within my heart.
Children who don’t know what real music is might say that this is just a song that only grandparents listen to. Nonsense. What song these days tells the story of human love so lyrically and exquisitely? Not just any song is a classic. Classics are superlative works immortalized in human history because they express the universal humanity that makes us truly human. They are the last remaining bastion of human civilization, which is nowadays constantly declining.
Besides, it’s not technically possible to post new or popular songs on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc., because of copyright protection issues. Anyone who’s ever made a video for social media knows that you can only use old songs whose copyrights have expired or are loosened after many years. So, guys and gals, do your homework before you press “like” something or not.
