‘우크라전 게임체인저’ 하이마스보다 세다…‘천무’ 300문 폴란드 수출

◇ 폴란드 국방장관, 천무 300문 도입계획 공개
우크라이나 전쟁에서 러시아군을 정밀타격하며 전세 역전에 결정적 역할을 하고 있는 것으로 알려진 미국제 ‘하이마스’(HIMARS) 다연장로켓보다 강력한 국산 ‘천무’(天橆) 다연장 로켓 약 300문(로켓탄 포함 수조원 규모)이 폴란드에 수출된다. K2 전차, K9 자주포, FA-50 경공격기 등 약 25조원(후속 군수물량 등 포함하면 40여조원) 규모의 ‘대박’ 수출에 이은 폴란드 방산 수출 낭보다.
마리우시 브와슈차크 폴란드 부총리 겸 국방장관은 지난 14일 현지 언론들과의 인터뷰에서 “한화디펜스의 다연장 로켓포 천무를 약 300문 도입하기 위한 기본계약을 체결할 것”이라고 밝혔다. 브와슈차크 국방장관은 천무를 선택한 이유에 대해 “천무는 최고의 품질과 효율성을 갖춘 무기”라며 “천무는 미국의 다연장 로켓포 하이마스와 유사한 기능을 갖추고 있을 뿐만 아니라 최대 300㎞ 떨어진 목표물을 공격할 수 있어 국방력 강화에 도움이 될 것”이라고 말했다.
◇ 미제 ‘하이마스’ 로켓보다 빨리 공급 가능한 천무 선택
그는 천무 도입 시점과 관련해선 “첫번째 천무 부대는 이르면 2023년에 폴란드에 배치될 예정”이라고 말했다. 폴란드는 이달 중 천무 도입 기본계약을 체결한 뒤 올해중 세부 이행계약을 체결, 내년부터 본격 도입을 추진할 계획이다. 폴란드는 지난 2019년 미국제 하이마스 다연장 로켓 20문(전투용 18문, 훈련용 2문)을 발주, 내년에 도입할 예정이다. 하지만 하이마스 추가 도입 물량은 신속한 공급이 어려워 내년중 공급이 가능한 천무 도입을 결정한 것으로 알려졌다.
천무(K-239)는 지난 2009년부터 2013년까지 1300여억원의 예산으로 개발된 뒤 2015년부터 실전배치된 국산 다연장로켓이다. 천무는 한자로는 ‘하늘 천, 우거질 무’ 로 ‘다연장로켓으로 하늘을 뒤덮는다’라는 뜻이다. 지난 2011년 국민공모를 통해 명칭이 붙여졌다.

◇ Poland’s Minister of National Defense unveils plan to import 300 Chunmoos
About 300 domestic ‘Chunmoo’ multiple rocket launchers (worth trillions of won including rockets) will be exported to Poland. Chunmoo is more powerful than the US-made ‘HIMARS’ multiple rocket launcher which is known to play a decisive role in reversing the situation by precision strikes against the Russian army in the Ukraine war. This is good news from defense export project to Poland, following the previous exports of K2 tanks, K9 self-propelled artillery, and FA-50 light attack aircraft, worth about 25 trillion won (40 trillion won including follow-up munitions). In an interview with local media on the 14th, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak said, “We will sign a basic contract to introduce about 300 multiple rocket launchers from Hanwha Defense.” Regarding the reason for choosing Chunmoo, Minister of National Defense Błaszczak said, “Chunmoo is a weapon of the highest quality and efficiency. It has similar functions to the U.S.-made multi-rocket launcher Himars, and additionally it can attack targets up to 300 kilometers away, which will help strengthen our defense capabilities.”
◇ Choice of Chunmoo, which can be supplied faster than the U.S.-made “Himars” rocket
Regarding the timing of the introduction of Chunmoo, he said, “The first Chunmoo unit will be deployed to Poland as early as 2023.” After signing a basic contract for the introduction of Chunmoo this month, Poland plans to sign a detailed implementation contract within this year and push for full-scale introduction from next year. Poland ordered 20 U.S.-made Himars multiple rockets (18 for combat, 2 for training) in 2019, and plans to introduce them next year. However, it has been known that due to the difficulty of rapid supply of additional Himars, the country has decided to introduce Chunmoo, which can be supplied by next year.
Chunmoo (K-239) is a domestic multiple rocket launcher that was developed with a budget of 130 billion won from 2009 to 2013, and has been deployed in the field since 2015. In Chinese characters, Chunmoo is “Heaven Chun(天), Overgrown Moo(橆),” which would mean “Cover the sky with multiple rockets.” The name was given through a public contest in 2011.
